In line with the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center XII (ATI-RTC XII) recently concluded a three-day training program titled "From Field to Feast: Training on Fruit and Vegetable Processing." The training was conducted from April 24 to 26, 2024, aiming to enhance the skills of 30 vegetable growers from Tampakan, South Cotabato, in fruit and vegetable processing techniques.
These participants, who were recipients of a community garden project established the previous year, gathered at VMotril's Farm in Tupi, South Cotabato. The training was led by Ms. Victoria A. Motril, a recognized expert in food processing within the region.
The program provided a comprehensive learning experience, starting with theoretical lectures on food processing principles and followed by engaging hands-on activities. Participants gained practical skills in various techniques, including making fruit jams and jellies, vegetable pickling, and preparing mushroom shawarma.
Ms. Mercedita G. Aglibot and Ms. Anareystel P. Lape, NUPAP Focal Person and Alternate Focal Person respectively, spearheaded the training program. It aimed not only to equip vegetable growers with skills to enhance the value of their produce, thus reducing harvest wastage and increasing profits, but also to provide them with income-generating opportunities, especially during periods of abundant harvests.
This initiative underscores ATI-RTC XII's commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture practices and empowering local growers with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in their communities.
