The Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center XII (DA ATI-RTC XII) launched the Basic Meat Inspection Course (BMIC) for Meat Inspection Officers in Region XII and BARMM - Batch 4. The training is being held at DA ATI-RTC XII, San Felipe, Tantangan, South Cotabato. Agriculturist II and Livestock Focal Mr. Johnny H. Pasaquian warmly welcomed the guests and participants, acknowledging their commitment to enhancing their skills in meat inspection. Dr. Sittie Maleah Fatima M. Macog, Senior Meat Control Officer and Project Officer, introduced the 20-day program, recognizing the speakers and participants for their dedication to this essential training.

During the opening program, Planning Officer II, Engr. Teofilo T. Jumawan, emphasized the importance of the BMIC training program. He highlighted the opportunity it presents for participants to learn from each other, exchange ideas, and draw inspiration from the diverse experiences of their peers. Engr. Jumawan expressed his confidence that the participants would find the training enriching and beneficial, as they delve into various aspects of meat inspection over the course of 20 days.

Technical Staff and Alternate Livestock Focal, Mr. Errol Chris A. Laspiñas, provided a comprehensive overview of the training course. He introduced the 26 Meat Inspection Officers from Region XII and BARMM to the key objectives and expectations of the program. Myrna I. Habacon, DVM, Regional Technical Director of NMIS-RTOC XII at the Prime Regional Center in Koronadal City, served as the resource person for the day. Dr. Habacon extended a warm welcome and delivered an inspirational message, encouraging active participation from everyone. She introduced Module 1: Legal Framework: Laws and Issuances, covering the history and significance of meat inspection in the Philippines, along with the roles and responsibilities of Local Government Units (LGUs) and the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).

This collaborative effort between NMIS-RTOC XII and DA ATI-RTC XII aims to provide participants with essential knowledge, skills, and hands-on experiences in basic meat inspection. Led by Mr. Johnny H. Pasaquian and Mr. Errol Chris A. Laspiñas, the training session promises to be an impactful learning journey for the participants. The training will conclude on May 31, 2024, equipping the meat inspection officers with the expertise needed to uphold the highest standards of meat safety and quality.
