On June 11, 2024, the participants of the Training of Trainers (TOT) on Inbred Rice Seed Production and Farm Mechanization for Farm Schools and Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) in Region XII and BARMM (Batch 3) visited the South Central Mindanao Science and Technology College (SCMSTC) in Tacurong City. This visit was part of their training, providing them with hands-on experience in the operation of various rice farm machineries and equipment.
The participants were guided by the knowledgeable staff of SCMSTC, who facilitated the demonstration and practical exercises on operating essential agricultural machines used in rice production. These included tractors, harvesters, and mechanical rice transplanters. By directly handling this equipment, the trainees gained valuable insights and skills necessary for improving rice productivity through mechanization, which they can later share with farmers in their respective communities.
The activity, aimed at enhancing the participants' technical competencies, was organized and facilitated by RCEF Technical Staff Mr. Jayson V. Abang, with assistance from Admin Support Staff Mr. Merzaq A. Ulama, as well as On-the-Job Trainees Mr. John Christopher Cabatingan and Ms. Jonaleen Amor O. Booc. The practical experience reinforced the TOT’s objective to equip farm school owners and AEWs with the skills to promote and implement advanced rice farming techniques in the region.
