The first batch of the Training on Animal Herd and Health Management commenced on July 22, 2024, at the TESDA SOX Manpower Development Center in Purok Millango, Spring, Alabel, Sarangani Province. This 3-day training program, attended by 30 local farmers, is designed to enhance dairy farming practices in the region by covering essential topics in herd and health management.

Participants will engage in sessions focusing on core areas such as effective rearing management of cows and calves, nutrition and proper feeding, dairy cattle breeding, disease identification, and biosecurity in dairy farming. The program also emphasizes the critical role of record-keeping in maintaining herd health and ensuring productivity. These comprehensive topics aim to equip farmers with the knowledge needed to sustainably manage their dairy herds and maximize production.

Dr. Daniel D. De Vera, a Veterinarian II with the National Dairy Authority’s Malungon Satellite Office, led the initial discussions on Dairy Herd Management. Dr. De Vera shared insights on cow and calf rearing management, as well as feeding management practices, offering scientific knowledge and practical tips essential for successful dairy operations.

The training is facilitated by CFIDP Technical Staff Eljean Villasista and Planning Officer II Engr. Teofilo Jumawan Jr., who together ensure smooth coordination and a supportive learning environment for all participants. This initiative is expected to improve local dairy farming operations, ultimately contributing to the agricultural development of Sarangani Province.
