From July 15-19, 2024, ATI-RTC XII facilitated a comprehensive training course on seed testing at the BPI-NSQCS facility within the PhilRice Compound, Bual Norte, Midsayap, Cotabato. This specialized program aimed to enhance the capabilities of 15 seed analysts from Region XII and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) through advanced seed testing methodologies.
The training featured insights from expert resource persons, including Janice M. Bangoy from SOXAARRDEC, based at the University of Southern Mindanao in Kabacan, Cotabato, who led an in-depth session on Seed Morphology and Physiology. Additional speakers from the BPI-NSQCS Central Office included Assistant Center Chief Ms. Elalin T. Torio, along with Ms. Arian Jane G. Nanta, Agriculturist II, and Ms. Alma P. Bolima. From the BPI-NSQCS Region XII office, Ms. Marjie D. Lastimoso and Ms. Shirley A. Balidiong contributed valuable expertise to the training.
The program focused on equipping seed analysts with refined techniques in seed testing, ensuring that these professionals can uphold and enhance the quality and reliability of seed production in their regions. This initiative marks a critical step in advancing regional agricultural standards, promoting high-quality seed management for the continued success of crop production in Region XII and BARMM.
