The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) launched the Training on Coconut Hybridization Protocols, focusing on Assisted Pollination Technique for Hybrid Seed Production. The five-day training, which began on August 5, 2024, at the PCA-NCSPC in Carmen, Cotabato Province, is aimed at empowering farmers with advanced skills in coconut breeding to enhance crop productivity in Region XII.

Mr. Arnel P. Toraja, Division Chief I, opened the event by emphasizing the critical role of knowledge-sharing in empowering farmers to adapt to the agricultural sector's dynamic demands. CFIDP Technical Staff Normuhaymin B. Arsad extended a warm welcome to the 30 participants, setting expectations for a comprehensive training experience facilitated by experts in the field.

The training's first day featured Seed Garden Supervisor Ms. Angelie G. Bacudo, who presented on Coconut Varieties and Seednut Selection. Through detailed discussions and practical demonstrations, she highlighted the characteristics of various coconut types, their growth patterns, and disease resistance. Ms. Bacudo stressed the importance of choosing healthy, genetically superior seednuts for resilient plantations, equipping participants with the knowledge to make informed decisions for sustainable growth.

This five-day training is led by CFIDP staff, including Normuhaymin B. Arsad, Ms. Eljean B. Villasista, Ms. Kristelle Ann L. Flotibles, along with administrative support from Mr. Saiden O. Tauti, an On-the-Job Trainee. As the program unfolds, participants will delve further into hybridization protocols that are vital for sustainable coconut production in Region XII.
