Thirty coffee farmers from Arakan recently participated in a three-day “Technology Updating on Coffee Farm Management” training from August 14 to 16, 2024. Designed to elevate the knowledge and skills of coffee cultivators, the training equipped participants with the latest techniques in coffee production.
Municipal Agriculturist Mr. James V. Dulay opened the event with a warm welcome, followed by inspiring words from Municipal Kagawad Hon. Delfin Jubelan Moreno Jr., representing the local government. Engr. Junroe C. Barrios, ABE Coordinator of OMAg Arakan, led the sessions, providing expert insights into Coffee Production Technology, Disease Management, Fertilization, and Pruning & Rejuvenation.
Farmers were able to apply their learning in a practical session on the final day, where they practiced planting and fertilizing coffee plants under guided supervision. This hands-on component allowed them to directly implement new practices, reinforcing theoretical knowledge with real-world application.
The training was led by the High Value Crops Development Program Focal Person, Ms. Mercedita G. Aglibot, along with Alternate Focal Person, Ms. Anareystel P. Lape, marking an important step in supporting sustainable coffee farming in Arakan.
