The 3-Day Training on Virgin Coconut Oil, Coco-Sweetener, and Its By-products (Batch 4), conducted from November 25-27, 2024, at the Agricultural Training Institute - Satellite Training Center XII (ATI-STC XII) in Kabacan, Cotabato, equipped participants with critical skills to innovate and expand their agricultural enterprises.

The training opened with a warm and motivating message from Technical Staff Normuhaymin B. Arsad, who also outlined the program objectives and highlighted the vast potential of the coconut industry. Emphasizing the global demand for high-quality Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), Coco-Sweeteners, and other by-products, Mr. Arsad underscored the opportunities awaiting Filipino coconut farmers willing to diversify and adopt value-adding practices.

On the first day, Angel D. Bustamante, General Manager of SOX Food, delivered an engaging session on Good Manufacturing Practices for VCO production. He stressed the importance of maintaining strict hygiene and safety standards to ensure the production of premium-quality VCO that meets international benchmarks.

Day 2 focused on the practicalities of production, beginning with a detailed session by Coconut Development Officer Russel Jed Dela Pena on VCO extraction methods and best practices. Participants actively engaged in hands-on activities, mastering the technical aspects of producing high-quality oil. In the afternoon, Resource Person Gregg Arellaga guided participants through the production of Coco-Sweeteners and various by-products, transforming materials like coconut water, husks, and shells into innovative, market-ready products.

The final day featured a visit to a local Virgin Coconut Oil processing facility, providing a real-world demonstration of high-quality production techniques and adherence to manufacturing standards. The visit allowed participants to witness the practical application of their newfound knowledge, reinforcing their confidence in starting or improving their own ventures.

The training concluded with a graduation ceremony, celebrating the dedication and achievements of the participants and the organizers. This empowering experience left the farmers equipped with valuable skills and a renewed drive to enhance the Philippine coconut industry's competitiveness and sustainability.
