Patikul, Sulu – In a landmark event for agricultural advancement, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) in Sulu officially launched its Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Center on December 27, 2024. This milestone underscores the province's dedication to equipping local farmers with innovative tools and knowledge to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability.
The program opened with a warm welcome from Provincial Agriculturist Ms. Virginia P. Arreza, followed by encouraging messages from Engr. Ben Alkalal, Provincial Planning Development Officer, and Ms. Aida Abubakar, Board Secretary IV of the Sangguniang Panglungsod. These remarks highlighted the collective effort behind the establishment of the FITS Center and its potential to transform the agricultural landscape in Sulu.
Mr. John Lord L. Auman, OIC-ISS Chief and Information Officer II of ATI-RTC XII, provided an in-depth program overview, emphasizing the center's pivotal role in delivering essential agricultural resources and information to farmers. Dr. Jessie V. Beldia, OIC-Center Director of ATI-RTC XII, led the official turnover of equipment and resources, which included a desktop computer, printer with scanner, office furniture, IEC materials, a portable promotional booth, and a steel cabinet. Dr. Beldia underscored the importance of innovation and collaboration in achieving agricultural progress in the region.
A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ATI-RTC XII and OPAg Sulu, solidifying their partnership in supporting the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP). The ATI-RTC XII team also toured the OPAg Sulu facilities, which featured impressive nurseries, showcasing the potential for further agricultural development in the province.
In his closing remarks, PCA Sulu Agriculturist Mr. Fahar Saiddi expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved and reiterated the importance of collaboration in implementing sustainable agricultural initiatives.
