
Twenty-five beneficiaries of the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) program went through a three-day chicken layer training on May 19 to 21, 2025, in Fugu, Tumauini, Isabela.
The Career Development and Management Section (CDMS) of the Agricultural Training Institute–Regional Training Center 02 conducted the training which received funding from the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program.
The participants were organized under Department of Social Welfare and Development's Sustainable Livelihood Program represented four community-based associations: Vuluan Ta Sigiran SLPA , Iddanama Moldero SLPA, Akbat Tumauini SLPA, and Aquaculture Ta Naga SLPA. These groups were endorsed to ATI-RTC 02 for capacity building.
Participants were taught to enhance new skills and techniques related to chicken layer production to help them establish a profitable poultry-based livelihood enterprises. Several lessons were tackled, these were about financial analysis, grading, breed selection, housing, feeding, health management, and egg handling.

Lectures and practical tutorials during the workshop were delivered by experts from JESLA Farm and ATI-RTC 02. On the third day, participants took part in fieldwork at JESLA Farm in City of Ilagan, Isabela to supplement their information.

“Sa pag-aalaga ng manok mahalaga pala na dapat mong alam kung anong layer ang ating alagaan. Natutunan ko na sa pagpapatayo ng kulungan ay dapat pala nakaharap sa east-west para hindi masyadong naiinitan ang kulungan, napakahalaga na may monitoring sheet at record tayo sa lahat ng gastos na nailalabas ang meron tayong basehan. Sa pagpapalawak ng manok ay mahalaga na makumpleto ang 14-16 hrs. sa mga layer, maayos na water system at cage,” said Ms. Jenny M. Allam, (EPAHP) program beneficiary in Tumauini, Isabela.
The initiative helps the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) reach its goal of reducing hunger and poverty by giving vulnerable groups agricultural skills.
