The Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center II (ATI-RTC 02) successfully conducted two batches of the Training on Mechanized Rice Crop Establishment on May 19–21 and May 21–23, 2025, at its training center in Malasin, San Mateo, Isabela. The activities were attended by a total of 73 participants—35 from the first batch and 38 from the second—representing 32 Farmers’ Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) from the provinces of Isabela, Quirino, and Cagayan.
The training aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills in mechanized rice production to promote productivity and efficiency in their farming communities. The program kicked off with Engr. Ryan D. Duyag of DA-PHilMech, who delivered lectures on the updated status of rice mechanization in the Philippines, the importance of mechanization for sustainable rice production, and the operation and maintenance of mechanical transplanters and seeders.
Hands-on activities took place on the second day, including seedbed preparation, raising healthy seedlings, and the operation of the Walk-behind Transplanter, Drum Seeder, and Precision Seeder. These were conducted in partnership with the SACDECO Training Center in Santiago City, which provided equipment and land for practical sessions. Mr. Jomar E. Rivera, Agribusiness Officer and SACDECO trainer, shared best practices in machine operation and discussed KeyCheck 2: Well-Prepared Field.
On the final day, Mr. Joselito J. Dela Cruz and Mr. Jei-ar M. Limos tackled KeyCheck 4: Sufficient Number of Healthy Seedlings. This was followed by a post-test, evaluation, and presentation of re-entry plans. Certificates of completion were awarded by ATI-RTC 02 OIC-Center Director Dr. Claris Marayag-Alaska.
Participants shared positive feedback on their experiences. Many appreciated the balance of lectures and hands-on practice. Farmers like Arthur D. Fuggan, Aileen L. Correa, and Greg Mayo emphasized the training's usefulness in understanding and operating machines provided by PHilMech. Others expressed gratitude for the chance to learn and network with fellow FCAs.
The training reinforced the importance of equipping farmers with the tools and knowledge to adopt mechanized technologies. With continued support from ATI-RTC 02, SACDECO, PHilMech, and PhilRice, FCAs in Region 2 are better prepared to modernize their rice production systems and boost agricultural productivity in their communities.
