Thirty project beneficiaries under the Greenhouse Project of the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 02 (DA-RFO 02) attended the five-day training on Greenhouse Technology and Hydroponics at the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 02 (ATI-RTC 02) in Malasin, San Mateo, Isabela on April 21 to 25, 2025 in partnership with the DA-RFO 02.
The training aimed to enhance the participants' understanding of modern agricultural practices by emphasizing the benefits and importance of smart greenhouses in vegetable production. It also sought to introduce the principles and advantages of hydroponics. Furthermore, the training aimed to differentiate traditional farming from soilless cultivation methods, identify various types of hydroponic systems, list crops suitable for soilless farming, and develop practical skills in setting up and managing hydroponic systems.

A key highlight of the training was the hands-on session where participants learned how to set up simple hydroponic systems, including the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT). These practical exercises helped reinforce theoretical knowledge and improve technical ability of the participants.
To further enrich the learning experience, participants visited model farms and DA-RFO 02 hydroponics project beneficiaries, such as Saguibo Integrated Farm, LGU-Quezon, Isabela and Cagayan Valley Research Center, served as benchmarking sites to showcase real-life applications and best practices in hydroponic farming.

“I learned more about hydroponic systems and now able to set-up my own hydroponic system. I also learned about how to prepare nutrient solution. It is an eye-opener for me, why not take the opportunity and embrace the new technology of the hydroponic system in farming,” said Mr. Revelino Aldaca, NUPAP beneficiary from Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya.
Overall, the training was successfully conducted, empowering participants with innovative, climate-resilient approaches to sustainable vegetable production.
