‘’I want to inspire you guys kasi to be honest ako lang yung nag-iisang babae na Project Engineer sa aming team. Gusto ko lang sabihin na kahit babae tayo dapat ipakita mo pa rin na kaya mong magsupervise at magmando lalo na kapag mali na yung ginagawa nila sa project site,” said Engr. Joan Centeno of the DA-RFO 02 Regional Agricultural Engineering Division (RAED) during the Training on Construction Supervision, Quality Control and Inspection for Agricultural Infrastructures conducted at the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 02 (ATI-RTC 02), Malasin, San Mateo, Isabela on October 21-22, 2024, and November 25-27, 2024.
Thirty Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers (ABE) from various Local Government Units and government institutions in Cagayan Valley region attended the training.
ATI-RTC 02, OIC-Center Director, Dr. Claris Marayag-Alaska graced the opening program and welcoming the participants. “I am challenging you to apply the knowledge and skills you will gain on this training in your fieldwork to ensure the quality of every infrastructure project in your respective area of responsibilities,” Dr. Alaska said.
The training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for supervising and inspecting the construction of earth-filled dams, small water impounding projects, and diversion dams, ensuring the durability and quality of agricultural infrastructure.
Over the five-day course, participants engaged in a series of lectures, hands-on workshops, and a field visit facilitated by experts in agricultural engineering. Topics covered included the Introduction to Construction Supervision of Agricultural Infrastructures, Site Management, Contract Management, Quality Control and Inspection.
One of the highlights was the actual field inspection of the ongoing construction of the Cuntapay Small Water Impounding Project in Mallig, Isabela. Participants had the opportunity to observe firsthand the construction process, interview key personnel such as the Project Engineer, Foreman, and laborers, and inspect whether the project adhered to the detailed engineering design and material specifications.
During the closing program, ISS Chief, Vladimir B. Caliguiran emphasized the responsibility and accountability of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers in every agricultural infrastructure project. He reminded them that the people have entrusted these roles to them, and therefore, they must perform their duties diligently and with excellence.
