Twenty coconut farmers of Claveria, Cagayan had the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in coconut products and by-products processing during the conduct of the 3-day Training on Processing of Coconut Products and By-products on August 18-20, 2024. The training aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitude of the farmers on the production of coconut products and by-products.

Coconut is one of the most significant commodities and exports from the Philippines, that is why farmers are encourage to engage in value-adding operations to optimize their crop's potential for profit and sustainability. This encourages the development of businesses and jobs in the local communities, as well as a boost in the earnings of coconut farmers.

The training featured insightful lectures by Engr. Hazel Bulusan, a graduate of the Training of Trainers (TOT) on coconut production, along with Ms. Jane Agapua and Mr. George Curammeng from Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA). Participants also engaged in hands-on activities focused on coconut non-food products such as  twine, lampshade, and other novelty products at the Cagayan State University Sanchez Mira, guided by Mr. Mark Gamino, the High Impact Projects (HIP) coordinator.  It also enhanced their skills and opening up new possibilities for their businesses.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dante A. Castillo, Claveria OIC Municipal Agriculturist expressed deep gratitude for ATI's partnership and support, highlighting their eagerness for future extension activities in their municipality.

The said training is in line with the on-going Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP). It was also a collaborative effort of the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 02 (ATI-RTC 02), LGU Claveria,  Cagayan State University, and PCA.
