To enhance the livelihoods of coconut farmers, the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center 02, in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), conducted a Training on Native Chicken Production and Management in Gozanga and Camalaniugan, Cagayan. The program benefited 30 NCFRS-registered coconut farmers, with 15 participants per batch.

The training aimed to equip farmers with essential knowledge and skills in production, processing, value-adding, and entrepreneurship to support the coconut-native chicken farming system. Under this initiative, the Bureau of Animal Industry will provide native chickens to the farmers, integrating poultry production into their coconut-based farming systems.

Key topics covered in the training included Overview of CFIDP and Coconut-Native Chicken Integration, Economic opportunities of Coconut-Native chicken farming system, Potential of native chicken production, Breeding, Selection and Production Guide for Native Chicken and Management Practices.

The integration of native chicken production with coconut farming has been proven to increase farmers’ income, optimize farm resources, and enhance food security. By adopting this sustainable and profitable farming approach, coconut farmers can maximize their land's productivity while diversifying their sources of revenue.

Through continued training and support, ATI, PCA, and BAI reaffirm their commitment to empowering Filipino coconut farmers, promoting sustainable agriculture, and improving rural livelihoods.

The series of trainings were conducted on on February 11-13, 2025, in Gonzaga and February 18-20, 2025 in Camalaniugan.
