The Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 2 (ATI-RTC 2) in collaboration with the DA-Regional Field Office 02, successfully conducted the Training Workshop on Participatory Guarantee System Certification for Batanes PGS Group on June 9-13, 2025 at Batanes Provincial Agriculturist Training Hall, Basco, Batanes. 

The training with mentoring and coaching session was participated by 16 Batanes PGS Group members. The activity provided guidance and support to PGS Batanes in the preparation of PGS certification, and their compliance with standards and fostering sustainable agricultural practices.

The training sessions were led by the regional core team of trainers on PGS formation from ATI-RTC 02 and DA-RFO 02. They shared their expertise on various aspects of PGS formation, including the legal framework such as R.A. 11511, Organic Agriculture Standards, establishment, operation, and accreditation of PGS groups as Organic Certification Bodies (OCBs), and peer review & certification protocols.

During the pre-assessment session, the Regional Pre-Assessment Team (RPAT) conducted farm inspections to check the compliance of farm for five (5) core PGS farmer-members, namely:
1.    Ms. Marilou A. Alina- Brgy. Chanarian, Basco, Batanes
2.    Mr. Ireneo V. Batin- Brgy. Imnajbu, Uyugan, Batanes
3.    Mr. Crescente E. Cobico- Brgy. Itbud, Uyugan, Batanes
4.    Ms. Sabina F. Alcon- Brgy. Chanarian-Tukon, Basco, Batanes
5.    Ms. Rosalia E. Bata- Brgy. San Antonio, Basco, Batanes

Before the pre-assessment, the RPAT presented the itinerary of activities presented during the opening meeting and extend help in mentoring coaching and recommendations to address areas needing improvement at each farm site. 

This activity provided valuable guidance and support to the group in preparing for PGS certification, ensuring compliance with the required standards, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The RPAT provided coaching and recommendations on the enhancement of their site and  farm records before their application for Certification to BAFS.
