Malasin, San Mateo, Isabela - Thirty beneficiaries of the National Urban Peri-Urban Agriculture Program recently participated in a three-day training on Edible Landscaping at the Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 02 (ATI-RTC 02) in Malasin, San Mateo, Isabela. The training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and attitude to transform their landscapes into productive food sources, contributing to food security and community well-being.

The Department of Agriculture (DA), and ATI-RTC 02 continue to empower communities and foster a more resilient and sustainable food system. By integrating edible plants into existing landscapes, participants can maximize space and promote sustainable food production, ultimately contributing to a more secure and vibrant food future.

The trainees underwent lectures, engaged in participatory discussion, and hands-on practicums, and experienced field visit at the Cagayan Valley Research Center, City of Ilagan, Isabela to provide comprehensive and engaging learning. The training was conducted last May 24-27, 2024.

During the 3-day training, the participants learned about sustainable gardening techniques, crop selection, soil management, and the practical application of edible landscaping principles. They also gained hands-on experience in planning, designing landscapes, and management for a variety of edible plants.
