Farmer-leaders from different farm clusters participated in the Training on Rice-based Integrated Farming System (RBIFS) for Farmer and Fisheries Clustering and Consolidation Program (F2C2) Cluster Leaders and Members on July 24-26, 2024 at ATI-RTC 02, San Mateo, Isabela.

The training aimed to equip the participants with knowledge and skills in rice production updates, rice-based integrated farming system, their concepts, and principles.

Participants were also had the chance to visit the Learning Sites for Agriculture namely: R&D Oliveros Institute of Technology and Agri-Tourism Corporation, in Roxas, Isabela, Jr., Saguibo’s Farm in San Mateo, Isabela, and the FDN Integrated Farm in Aurora, Isabela.

Throughout the training, participants were introduced to the key concepts and principles of the Rice-based Integrated Farming System. Mr. Jhimcelle V. Salvador, Chief of CDMSS, shared his expertise on the PalayCheck System and Palayaman Plus. Dr. Marilou Agaid explained how integrating ducks into rice production can save costs and generate additional income, as ducks feed on insects and golden apple snails, lay eggs, and can be sold for meat.

Fish production was also introduced to the trainees by Mr. Arnel Santiago, owner of Santiago Fish Farm, a certified LSA. He highlighted the high demand for fish and expressed his willingness to support farmers interested in this venture.

“I learned the importance of pruning in improving the plant’s fruit production. The benefits of duck in rice farming. The new technologies of Palayamanan and the PalayCheck System,” Jerome P. Galzote of Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya said.
