The Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 02 celebrated its 38th founding anniversary highlighting the role of youth in agricultural development at the Excel Restaurant, San Mateo, Isabela, on February 27, 2025. The event was not just a commemoration of the Institute's past but also a hopeful glance towards the future, particularly in engaging the youth in agricultural innovation.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Rose Mary G. Aquino, Regional Executive Director of the Depart of Agriculture Region 02, graced the event. In her message, emphasized the importance of youth participation in agriculture, echoing the anniversary theme, "Youth in Agriculture: Cultivating Innovations through Partnerships." With enthusiasm, she noted an encouraging trend - the average age of farmers in the region has decreased, a sign that the concerted efforts of various government agencies are resonating positively. “The youth is the future of agriculture,” she remarked, expressing her optimism about what the youth can for agriculture. “The Department of Agriculture Regional Office Number 02 stands ready to support all programs aimed at youth engagement in the region.” Aquino stated. She also encouraged the youth who received assistance from the government that when they are capable, they should bring back the goodness in their respective communities.
The anniversary celebration featured the recognition of partners that have played pivotal roles in agricultural and fisheries development. Recognized were various National Government Agencies (NGAs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Provincial Local Government Units (PLGUs), Municipal Local Government Units (MLGUs), and several outstanding Extension Managers and Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs).
A highlight of the event was the awarding of ₱1.5 million grants to qualified farmer cooperatives and associations, magsasaka siyentista, and Learning Sites Cooperators (LSAs) as part of the Swine Industry Recovery Project. Additionally, the event celebrated the culmination of a nine-month internship program, with certificates and ₱150,000 grants awarded to interns involved in the Youth Internship Program on Organic Agriculture (YIPOA) and from partners. The contributions of the EAsY Agri Scholars, who successfully completed their college courses and passed their respective board exams, were also honored, along with international interns from Taiwan and Japan, who received their certificates.
Following is the recognition of ATI employees, section, and programs. The Livestock and Rice was awarded as Most Outstanding Programs while ARUBAYAN is the Most Innovative Program.Tthe Career Development and Management Section was named as the Most Outstanding Section while the Information and Services Section was named as the Most Innovative Section. Mr. Cupido Sabatin, Jr. awarded as the Most Outstanding Employee (Permanent) and Ms. Jennilyn Pablo awarded as Most Outstanding Employee (Contract of Service). Ms. Aileen Shaye Fontanilla named as Ace of Initiative, and Mr. Jhimcelle Salvador bestowed the Excellence of Leadership Award.
Dr. Claris Marayag-Alaska, the OIC-Center Director of ATI-RTC 02, welcomed participants with pride, sharing the significant accomplishments of the institute in promoting innovation and support for youth in agriculture. "We did not do this alone and we thank you for our partnership. Together, we will continue our mission to empower the next generation of agricultural leaders and paving the way for a future for agriculture - continue to thrive, innovate, empower, and flourish in our communities." she stated, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and partnership in achieving goals.
ATI-RTC 02 also recognized its employees who fostered work ethics, professionalism, loyalty, and punctuality. The day’s festivities commenced with a mass, followed by a formal program filled with recognition and celebration. As night fell, the Employees' Night event, themed Sakuras Bloom showcased the elegance of the ATI staff, with employees donning stunning Japanese-influenced attire, adding a cultural touch to the evening's festivities.
The 38th anniversary of ATI-RTC 02 was not just a celebration of achievements but a commitment to building a more sustainable future through youth engagement and partnership, ensuring that agriculture continues to thrive in the region.
