Cebu AEWs trained on corn production technologies

Cebu – The fourth batch of Training of Trainers (TOT) on Corn Production Technologies for AEWs was conducted on May 24 – 26, 2022 at the Hagnaya Beach Resort, Hagnaya, San Remigio, Cebu. Twenty (20) AEWs from the municipalities/cities of Bantayan, Carmen, Catmon, City of Bogo, City of Carcar, Compostela, Consolacion, Daanbantayan, Danao City, Dumanjug, Ginatilan, Medellin, Minglanilla, Poro, San Francisco, San Remigio and Tuburan in the province of Cebu were able to participate in the three-day training.

The first batch of this TOT was conducted in Bohol on March 2 – 4, 2022; the second batch was conducted in Cebu on March 22 – 24, 2022; while the third batch was conducted in Negros Oriental on April 19 – 21, 2022.

Overall, the training aims to enable the participants to gain knowledge and skills on extension and the technical activities in corn production technologies for sustainable agricultural development. In the three-day course, participants learned about corn production technologies, insect pests and diseases of corn; the fall armyworm management; crop-cut data and navigate the site-specific nutrient management (SSNM) nutrient expert tool for maize.

Dr. Merrian Piquero-Soliva from the Agricultural Training Institute Regional Training Center 7; Jorge A. Odiaman from Regional Crop Protection Center DA-RFO 7, Maguikay, Mandaue City, Cebu; Marya Zea Villaganas from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist-Cebu and Ofelia M. Acabal from the Regulatory Division of DA-RFO 7 shared their expertise on the topics discussed as resource persons while Charlou Ampit supported the training as a member of the training management team.

“Na refresh akong knowledge tungod ani nga training ug dagahn sad ni ug ikatabang sa field. Sa kataas sa length sa service sa akong pagpanarbaho, nakita nako nga kinanglan pa gyud ma enhance akong kahibalo para mas makatabang mi sa among mga clientele especially ang mga farmers,” said Rhoda Capangpangan of LGU-Danao City – one of the training participants.
