TOT for cacao and coffee propagation, plant nursery accreditation conducted in NegOr

Negros Oriental - On May 24 - 27, 2022, the second batch of Training of Trainers on Coffee and Cacao Planting Material Propagation and Plant Nursery Accreditation was conducted in Manhattan Suites Inn, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. The first batch was conducted in Cebu – with details here.

There were 26 agricultural extension workers coming from the three provinces of Cebu, Negros Oriental and Siquijor: municipalities of Dumanjug, Tuburan in Cebu province; municipalities/cities of Amlan, Bais City, Bindoy, Canlaon City, City of Bayawan, City of Guihulngan, City of Tanjay, Dumaguete City, Mabinay, Pamplona, San Jose, Siaton and Valencia in Negros Oriental province; and Enrique Villanueva, Larena, Lazi, Maria, San Juan, and Siquijor in the Siquijor province. Two participants come from Negros Oriental Research and Development Center (NORDC) of San Jose, and Siation Stations.

The training aims to equip and/or enhance the knowledge, attitude and skills of our AEWs/ HVCDP Technicians on coffee and cacao planting material propagation techniques and production following proper nursery management.

During the four-day course, participants learned about plant propagation principles and practices, propagation environment, plant propagation for profit, nursery certification/accreditation. They also learned the demonstration on making more plants as a science, art and joy of plant propagation.

“The training is important, timely, and applicable for me as a Plant Material Inspector. This is also important for Negros Oriental Research and Development Center (NORDC) accreditation. Thank you for the additional knowledge and skills. I appreciate all the lectures with hands-on activity. Over-all, the training is excellent. Looking forward to another training on rehabilitation,” said Benjie Melanio Jr. of DA-RFO 7 – NORDC-San Jose Station.

Henry S. Binahon from Binahon Agroforestry Farm (BAFF) in Bukidnon; and Marcheta C. Brina from Bureau of Plant Industry - National Seed Quality Control Services (BPI-NSQCS 7), BES Gabi, Ubay, Bohol shared their expertise on the topics discussed as resource persons while Angelie Mencede served as member of the training management team.
