Tagbilaran City, Bohol – The Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 7 (ATI-RTC 7) successfully conducted a three-day training on Feed Formulation Using Local Materials from May 27 to 29, 2025, held at its training complex in Cabawan District, this city.

The training brought together 25 participants, including Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and farmers from various provinces across Central Visayas. It aimed to equip them with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to formulate livestock and poultry feeds using locally available materials, particularly corn by-products and forage crops.

Resource speaker Dr. Roland Villahermoso Villegas, PhD, Regional Supervisor of the Department of Education – Region 7, led the sessions, providing both theoretical knowledge and hands-on instruction.

Participants were trained in key feed formulation techniques, including the Pearson Square method and Linear Progression.

According to Ms. Jessa P. Maglangit, Development Management Officer I and Project Officer, the participants also learned to identify and assess the nutrient composition of various forage crops suitable for local livestock and poultry farming.

“We aim to empower our farmers to become more self-sufficient and cost-effective in their operations by teaching them how to use what’s already available in their environment,” said Maglangit.

The training concluded with an actual feed preparation demonstration, allowing participants to apply what they had learned.

Each participant is expected to implement their re-entry plans upon returning to their communities, promoting the adaptation of natural and organic farming technologies within their respective barangays and local government units (LGUs).

This initiative is part of ATI-7’s continuing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen the capacities of farmers and extension workers in the region.
