Ubay, Bohol – March 10–14, 2025 — A five-day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Artificial Insemination (AI) for Small Ruminants was successfully held at the Ubay Stock Farm in Lomangog, Ubay, Bohol, to strengthen local capacity in livestock breeding technologies.
The training was organized under the leadership of Mr. Jun Alguin B. Oliver, Information Officer II, who served as the Project Officer, with support from Ms. Danelyn A. Enero, Technical Support Staff. A total of 25 participants, composed of Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and farmer-leaders from various municipalities, completed the course.
Serving as resource persons were Dr. Carl Leonard M. Pradera, Veterinarian III from the City Agriculture and Veterinary Office of Tagbilaran City, and Mr. Raul D. Migriño, Retired Chief Agriculturist. The trainers facilitated a series of lectures and practical sessions covering estrus synchronization, AI techniques, semen handling, and animal reproductive management for goats and sheep.
The training focused on the application of AI as a tool to improve herd genetics, increase productivity, and promote sustainable small ruminant farming. Each participant developed a Re-entry Action Plan (REAP), which outlines strategies to replicate their learning and implement AI programs within their respective Local Government Units (LGUs).
This initiative is part of the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Training Institute's ongoing efforts to modernize the livestock sector, promote science-based practices, and empower grassroots stakeholders in agricultural development.
