CORELLA, BOHOL -- Agricultural Training Institute-Central Visayas (ATI-CV) conducted the training on health and wellness for senior citizens dubbed as  Age Gracefully: A Health and Wellness Training for Senior Citizens at Green Thumb Farm, Sambog, Corella, Bohol on August 23-25, 2022.

The three-day training aimed to: (1) Enumerate the roles, rights, privileges, and benefits; (2) Discuss the lifestyle medicine and importance of nutrition; (3) Determine how to live a healthy life in a toxic world; (4) Describe the physical, mental, psychological, and social well-being of senior citizens; (5) Demonstrate on how to manage stress; and (6) Recognize the importance of healthy juices for our body and demonstrate its preparation.               

“We understand what lifestyle medicine is all about. They treat the root cause and not the symptoms. We learned about alternative medicine versus mainstream medicine. We learned lifestyle diseases were caused by unhealthy behaviour. We understand the components of how a healthy lifestyle benefits individuals (most esp. the older ones),” expressed Ms. Ancy Frances F. Laguitao, participant.

Ms. Merigine C. Otara discussed Promoting New Thinking for Philippine Agriculture (Transformational Leadership); Principles of Adult Learning; Conducting and Facilitating Farmers' Group Effectively. Moreover, Dr. Maria Asuncion A. Jalad talked about Lifestyle Medicine. Furthermore, Ms. Edna S. Lao expounded on How to Live Healthily in a Toxic World. Additionally, Ms. Evelina S. Leyble spoke about the Milestones, Challenges and Health Care Needs of Senior Citizens and RA 9994 Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 & Benefits and Privileges.   

“Let food be medicine, let medicine be the food, Important benefits of exercises, protection against disease, improved weight loss and prevention of weight gain, stronger bones. Walking is the best exercise. It takes only 30 minutes per day,” shared Ms. Dolores P. Cagogco, one of the participants.  

A total of 17 senior citizens composed of seven males and 10 females from across the province participated in the activity.
