Bohol – Twenty-Seven (27) AEWs & livestock raisers/farmers from the provinces of Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Bohol participated in the Forage and Pasture Establishment and Management training on June 19-21, 2024 held at Hotel 850, Jagna, and hands-on demonstration at the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) and Ubay Stock Farm (USF), Ubay this province.
The objective of the training enable the participants to accept/acknowledge the importance of forage establishment; Establish forage in their farms; Manage forage production for a year-round operation; Assess the quality of the forage produce; Establish a sustainable forage production; and Perform hands-on proper planting and propagation of different forages.
Topics discussed were the Introduction to Forage Production, Establishment, Management, Forage Quality Assessment, Sustainable Forage Production, and actual Hands-on Planting of Forage. Group Activities during the discussion include the Classification of forages and feed resources as sources of Energy, Protein, Vitamins & Minerals, and the Urea-Molasses Mineral Block (UMMB) Making.
The expected outcome is that the participants can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage forage & integrate it into their livestock agribusiness operations.
The pool of trainers includes Senior Agriculturist Gaudioso Calibugan of PCC, Agriculturist I Jose Edu Escudero, and Michael Baraquia of USF from Ubay. ATI-7 IO II Doris Isabel Racho was the Project Officer assisted by Technical Support Staff Hazeel Roche.

It allowed me to understand the importance of knowing different plants used for forage in ruminants at the same time, it allowed me to know the important details used in the different types of forage conservation methods. The training was important for the DA/municipal agriculture officials/technicians and farmers to be updated on the technologies that will facilitate the ruminants’ production and forage management. The resource person is very approachable and teaches all the details about each topic. The training management team was very approachable and accommodating.
