ATI-7 concludes Empowering Excellence: Training on IEC Development

 

Twenty (20) participants from Region VII recently concluded the 3 days training on Empowering Excellence: Training on IEC Development on April 23-25, 2024 at the Agricultural Training Institute – VII (ATI-7), Cabawan District, Tagbilaran City. Participants were mostly Information Service Specialist for both enhanced and to be established Farmers Information Technology Services (FITS) Centers in Bohol, Negros Oriental and Cebu.

In today's world, the way information is shared, education is imparted, and communication is conducted, has a significant impact on the behavior of individuals, dynamics within communities, and overall progress of the society. The agriculture sector possesses a lot of knowledge regarding emerging technologies that ought to reach farmers. The Department of Agriculture, thru the ATI, leverages information and communication technology to connect with farmers, fishers, and other stakeholders, facilitating this dissemination process.

The training is designed to equip the Agriculture Extension Workers (AEWs) and their organizations with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively use information dissemination, education, and communication to contribute to positive change and development thus, promote inclusive development by providing valuable insights and skills to the participants.

Trainees received comprehensive discussion on design principles, elements, formatting and practical applications in both Canva and Photoshop, equipping them with the skills necessary to effectively utilize these powerful tools. Afterwards, they were given a practical assignment to produce an output that demonstrated their newly acquired skills.

To give credits to performing participants; awards were given as follows: Best Final Output - Kim Sumampong (LGU Ronda, Cebu); Best in Concept Development – Arnie Basay (LGU Amlan, Negros Oriental); Best in Content Messaging – Jessielen Pacomios (LGU San Miguel, Bohol); Best in the use of Design Software – Alijah Gabriel Palumar (LGU Bindoy); Best in the use of Local Content & Resources – Janeth Sumagang (LGU Naga City, Cebu); and Best Techno-based Content – Joseph Satingasin (LGU Sibulan, Negros Oriental).

Resource person is Karl Louise Salibio with Jun Christopher Balangatan of the Information Services Divison, ATI Central Office while the training was facilitated by Doris Isabel Racho, assisted by May Joy Luzon of ATI -7. Through collaboration, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Bohol generously provided their Computer Lab, further enriching the training experience of the participants.

“Less is more on designing, we need to do IEC materials that are precise and timely and is relevant to the current problems. It may be short but we learned a lot during the 3 days training, especially the hands-on on photoshop.” – said Dame Myra Hino-o of LGU Tayasan, Negros Oriental.
