Stronger together: Building connections through self-care and solidarity
Promoting solidarity and self-care among members fosters trust, camaraderie, collaboration, and mutual support which eventually lead to stronger connections. This shared commitment to well-being enhances morale and resilience, fast-tracking progress and achievements within the organization.
The DA-Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) CALABARZON, under the supervision of Dr. Rolando V. Maningas, upholds the value of solidarity and self-care as it encourages a healthy and productive organization, geared towards stronger work dynamics and streamlined accomplishment of goals for the agri-fisheries sector.
One of the initiatives that underscores and support this is the Center’s Learning and Development Activity entitled “Stronger Together: Building Connections through Self-care and Solidarity,” held at Don Leon Nature Farm in San Juan, Batangas from December 9-11, 2024, in conjunction with the 18-day Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) campaign.
This initiative aims to promote and foster self-care and solidarity among DA-ATI CALABARZON personnel by engaging in activities that enhance their physical, mental, and emotional well-being which would result in a more dynamic, collaborative, and innovative public service.
The Center recognizes that employees who are mentally and physically well are more productive, engaged, and creative, while those struggling with health issues may experience decreased performance, higher absenteeism, and burnout. Further, employees’ self-care is crucial for maintaining well-being, productivity, and a positive workplace culture. Thus, balancing individual well-being with effective collaboration strengthens teams and promotes overall organizational success.
“I hope you will participate in all the activities na inihanda ng ating facilitators for us and just enjoy the three-day activity. Ito ay designed para sa inyo at sana makatulong ito kahit papaano para ma-relax tayo at ma-re-energize,” said Center Director Maningas in his message.
Within three days, team-building activities called structured learning exercises were held that required strength, strategies, and cooperation of the personnel. The DA-ATI CALABARZON also learned about the importance of mental health, breaking the stigma, and providing practical strategies for managing mental well-being from a lecture by Dr. Lucille Evangelista from the Batangas State University. More self-care activities like body massage, manicure, and pedicure services pampered each staff and made them even more relaxed. Meanwhile, all staff joined the Zumba session, dancing the violence away as part of the advocacy campaign for fighting against VAWC.
The Center affirms the importance of strengthening unity toward a common goal, fostering a harmonious relationship among its staff, and prioritizing the welfare of each member. By advocating a culture of solidarity and championing the value of self-care, organizations can create a nurturing and supportive environment where every member of the personnel is at their best and contributes to the success of the organization.
