CALABARZON - To help address various socio-economic constraints and poor dairy buffalo management, the Department of Agriculture (DA) - Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) CALABARZON capacitated 27 farmer-beneficiaries with knowledge and skills in dairy buffalo production and management.
DA-ATI CALABARZON partnered with the DA-Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), DA-Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), and Villar SIPAG Farm School to deliver the capability enhancement activity titled “Training on Dairy Buffalo Production and Management.”
The said training kicked off on Tuesday, July 16, and concluded on July 18 through a completion ceremony for the aforesaid participants composed of program beneficiaries of PCA and PCC from various regions in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Villar SIPAG Farm School (Bacoor City, Cavite) and PCC-UPLB (Los Baños, Laguna) served as training venues for both lectures and hands-on exercises. Participants also bench-marked on the dairy buffalo management practices of The Rosario Livestock and Farming Cooperative members.
As it aimed at responding to the information and technology needs of existing and potential buffalo raisers alike, the module covered crucial topics namely Body Condition Scoring, Nutrition and Feeding of Dairy Water Buffaloes, Animal Health, and Milking Procedure—shared by subject matter specialists from PCC-UPLB.
DA-ATI CALABARZON’s Career Development and Management Section (CDMS) spearheaded the said training.
