Synergy with LGUs: Enriching Solidarity in Agricultural Communities
Agriculture continues to be the fundamental foundation of many economies, especially in emerging nations. The relationship between Local Government Units (LGUs) and the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) plays an essential role in promoting equitable growth and dealing with food security challenges.
The collaboration between LGUs and ATI fosters agricultural technological advancement and information dissemination. ATI functions as knowledge hubs for producers and agricultural extension workers, offering training programs, courses, and technical support. Through this connection, LGUs can use ATIs' resources and experiences to communicate advanced approaches to farming, sustainable methods, and technology advancements to local communities. In return, by receiving the most up-to-date agricultural knowledge, farmers become more resilient against environmental problems, optimize output, and improve the value of their food.
To ensure that positive interactions are continually maintained and solidified in the region, Dr. Rolando V. Maningas, Training Center Superintendent II of the DA-ATI CALABARZON, was invited and took part in the ARKOntest last April 19, 2024, in Sampaloc, Quezon. Dr. Maningas served as one of the judges for the event, wherein fourteen (14) arches along Quezon Avenue were decorated with colorful “buli” and other indigenous materials. The aforementioned event was one of the activities included in the 13th Bulihan Festival, which took place from April 19 to 26, 2024, under the theme BULIHAN2024: CARNIVAL.
In addition, Dr. Maningas attended the opening ceremony of the Sumilang Festival to show his strong support for the celebration which took place last April 24, 2026, at the New Municipal Hall Grounds in Silang, Cavite. The festival showcased the farmers’ hardwork, talents, and creativity in food cultivation, livestock keeping, and rural community sustainability.
Also present during the activity were Hon. Francisco “Kiko” N. Pangalinan (Former Senator and Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization), Atty. Alvin John F. Balagbag (Undersecretary for DA Inspectorate and Enforcement and Chief of Staff), Hon. Atty. Alston Kevin A. Anarna (Municipal Mayor), Mr. Fidel L. Libao (OIC-Regional Executive Director, Regional Technical Director for Operations, DA-Region IV-A), Mr. Aidel Paul G. Belamide (Provincial Board Member of Cavite), Mr. Carl Vincent D. Gapasin (OIC Assistant Chief, Bureau of Plant Industry), Ms. Emmy Lou T. Pascual (Chief of Division, Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation), and Ms. Adelia C. Poblete (Municipal Agriculturist).
DA-ATI CALABARZON continued its engagements and participated in the Calacatchara Festival 2024, held on May 2, 2024, at the Calaca City Gymnasium. Ms. Maridelle G. Jaurigue, Information Officer III and Chief of the Information Services Section represented the Center Director. She served as a judge in one of the activities during the festival, which was the Fields of Valor: The 2024 Calaca City Agri-Fair. The gathering was a celebration of the breakthroughs, indigenous heritage, and unwavering patriotism of the people, as displayed through a variety of products and creative expressions from each barangay.
Under Dr. Maningas' leadership, DA-ATI CALABARZON will keep forging strong connections across LGUs that will aid in the development of resilient and vibrant agricultural communities for future generations.
