SAMPALOC, Quezon – Recognizing the significant role of the basic unit of society in promoting the health and wellness among children, the Department of Agriculture bureau, Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in CALABARZON, gathered 13 mother-child pairs for an extension activity held at BB Agriventures OPC in this town on June 6, 2024.
Entitled “Invigorate Children's Health: Seminar on Basic Nutrition and Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD),” it aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participants in good and proper personal hygiene and the importance of nutrition in growth development by providing affordable, nutritious, and safe food.
This was in collaboration with the local government unit of Sampaloc, wherein Ms. Deanna Abejar, Agricultural Technologist I from the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist; and Mr. Louie Aldous Vincent Faller, Nurse II from the Rural Health Unit, served as resource persons for the activity.
Aside from participatory lecture discussions, also integrated into the seminar were experience-sharing, hands-on activities, and various exercises that would help participants better understand the topics.
“Bilang isang magulang, nu’ng una po akala namin easy lang lahat. Sa pagkain, kalimitan napapakain natin ng mga hotdog at mga frozen food ang mga bata. Kulang pa ‘yung knowledge namin para sa mga pagkain na hinahain namin para sa mga anak namin. Nakalimutan namin ‘yung tamang nutrisyon para sa mga anak natin. Para sa proper hygiene naman po, natutunan po namin ang tamang pag-aayos sa mga anak naming,” said Queencess Moralde, one of the participants.
Further, children were provided with grooming kits for them to practice what they had learned, as well as other materials to exercise their creativity.
