Ensuring Shelf Life: Advanced Techniques in Post-Harvest Handling

The Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center I (ATI-RTC I) recently conducted a Training Course on Post-Harvest Handling of Fruits and Vegetables from June 4-6, 2024, at ATI-RTC I, Tebag East, Santa Barbara, Pangasinan. The primary objective was to equip agricultural extension workers (AEWs) and farmer leaders with essential knowledge and skills to improve post-harvest practices for fruits and vegetables.

Thirty-four (34) AEWs and farmer leaders participated in the three-day training, which covered a wide range of topics relevant to post-harvest handling, with a focus on maximizing the quality and shelf-life of fruits and vegetables.

A key highlight of the training was a scheduled market and trading post visit in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan. This visit provided participants with hands-on learning experiences, allowing them to observe and understand the flow of produce, market dynamics, and best practices in pre-harvest, packaging, storage, transport, and marketing.

This training marks a significant step towards improving post-harvest practices in Region I. By equipping farmers and AEWs with essential skills and knowledge, the training aimed to enhance the quality and marketability of fresh produce, ultimately contributing to the region's agricultural productivity and sustainability. The three-day training was accredited by the Philippine Regulatory Commission for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with 5 points.
