The importance of sustainable agriculture and livestock production cannot be overstated, especially in rural communities where farming and animal husbandry serve as vital sources of livelihood. Recognizing the significance of equipping agricultural extension workers with the necessary skills and knowledge, the Agricultural Training Institute—Regional Training Center 1 (ATI-RTC 1) recently conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) for the agricultural extension workers (AEWs) focused on native cattle production and management with the integration of coconut production. The training was taken place on July 3-7, 2023 at Tebag East, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan.

The primary objective of this training was to equip AEWs with the necessary expertise to become effective trainers in native cattle and coconut production integration towards improved productivity and income of the coconut farmers in Region 1 through the latest research, techniques, and best practices in livestock and crops production

The training program included a diverse range of interactive sessions, field visits, practical demonstrations, and knowledge-sharing opportunities. Field visits and practical demonstrations were conducted at Balungao Integrated Farm in Balungao Pangasinan where the participants experienced corn silage making.

Resource persons composed of seasoned veterinarians, successful cattle farmers, and experienced coconut growers. Their expertise ensured that participants received the most up-to-date information and practical guidance. Some key highlights and insights from the training are the following:

The collaborative efforts of expert resource persons, combined with the active participation of the agricultural extension workers, ensured a fruitful and impactful learning experience. With a strengthened knowledge base and practical skills, the participants are well-equipped to promote sustainable agricultural practices, drive local economic growth, and contribute to the overall development of the agricultural sector in their respective areas.
