Marking an essential development in the livestock industry in the region, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Ilocos Region, in partnership with the Provincial Local Government Unit of La Union, and the Municipality of San Gabriel conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Swine Artificial Insemination sa Barangay (SWAIB) Project on September 7, 2023 at Brgy. Daking, San Gabriel. The project was granted to the Local Government Unit of San Gabriel to cater farmer associations and other farmer groups in the province.
The ceremony was participated by distinguished guests, including the Executive Assistant of the Governor of La Union, Dr. Eleazar Belgica; representative of San Gabriel Hon. Mayor Lany B. Carbonell, Engr. Francis Gacayan; Sangguniang Bayan Member Hon. Margo Bang-ao; Municipal Agriculturist, Ms. Rizalina Quiros; ATI-RTC 1 Assistant- Center Director, Dr. Josephine K. Aben; Brgy. Chairperson of Daking, PB Eduardo Pasian Jr.; and Brgy. Chairperson of Polipol, PB Benilda Bang-ao. Their participation demonstrates their unwavering collective commitment and support to the success of SWAIB.
This cutting-edge facility will play a crucial role in boosting the livestock industry by offering modern techniques and resources for artificial insemination. Through the provision of advanced swine breeding services to local livestock raisers, SWAIB aspires to elevate the region’s swine production, enhance genetic diversity, and ultimately bolster the economic growth and food security of La Union.
The said groundbreaking was a second milestone for the province in the livestock sector, following the 1st SWAIB project in Rosario, La Union which was inaugurated on June 15, 2023. The project is funded under the National Livestock Program and represents a vital step toward meeting the ever-growing demand for swine production in the region.
