A total of 28 members of the BATIRI-Tribal Farmers Irrigators Association of Bani, Pangasinan successfully completed the Training on Coconut-Native Chicken Integration for Coconut Farmers on September 25-27, 2024, at Manalo’s Integrated Farm, Brgy. Tipor, Bani, Pangasinan.
The three-day training was a follow through capability building support to capacitate the association in developing community-based enterprises. It specifically aimed to equip the association with knowledge, skills, and right attitude in integrating native chickens into coconut farming in addition to coffee and cacao which were provided to them previously.
The program included a range of learning activities, such as lecture- discussions, workshops, and hands-on demonstrations on feed formulation. Participants also had the opportunity to tour Manalo's Integrated Farm to appreciate and learn the farm’s technologies and good practices in native chicken production
Dr. Elino Requidan, owner of Vaughn’s Farm, and Mr. Romeo Manalo, owner of Manalo’s Integrated Farm, generously shared their expertise and insights with the participants throughout the three-day training.
The participants submitted re-entry plans, which outlined their intended actions and strategies in applying the knowledge and skills gained during the training on coconut-native chicken integration.
It is hoped that through this undertaking, the association will be able to establish a coconut community based farm enterprise and serve as model of other coconut farming communities in the future.
