Ensuring Quality: ATI MIMAROPA Equips Seed Inspectors in Inbred Rice Seed Production and Certification

Inbred Rice Seed Production and Certification

NAUJAN, ORIENTAL MINDORO – The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA conducted the “Training on Inbred Rice Seed Production and Certification for Deputized and Designated Seed Inspectors” on April 16-18, 2024 at ATI MIMAROPA, Barcenaga, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

During the training, participants were re-oriented to the mechanics, policies, and guidelines on seed certification for inbred rice seed production, as well as their responsibilities as seed inspectors. It also enhanced their capability to efficiently carry out their responsibilities and provide technical assistance to seed growers. 

The highlight of the training was the hands-on demonstration for participants on seed testing methods, procedures, and laboratory standards. During the actual activities, they experienced conducting various tests, including Moisture Content Determination, Physical Purity Test, Germination Test, and Varietal Purity Test, which equipped them with the necessary skills to accurately uphold the highest standards in seed quality assessment. 

On behalf of the participant, Mr. Abner Juanerio, Seed Inspector from Brookes Point, Palawan expressed his appreciation for the overall quality of the training. 

“Gusto ko pong pasalamatan ang ATI sa walang-sawang at walang-pagod na pagbibigay sa amin ng mataas na kalidad na pagsasanay, tulad ng Training on Inbred Rice Seed Production and Certification para sa mga Deputized at Designated Seed Inspectors. Dahil sa mga paksa na tinalakay sa pagsasanay na ito, kami ay nagkaroon ng dagdag na kaalaman bilang mga seed inspectors. Kami ay lubos na nagpapasalamat sa mga staff at sa lahat ng bumubuo ng pagsasanay na ito dahil sa kanilang napakamaayos na pakikitungo at pag-aalaga sa amin, ” he shared. 

In partnership with the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) and BPI-National Seed Quality Control Services in Oriental Mindoro, the three-day training led by Ms. Marilyn G. Gonda, Training Specialist II/RCEF Point Person of ATI MIMAROPA, had a total of 15 Agricultural Extension Workers graduates from the provinces of Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, and Occidental Mindoro.
