ATI, DA-RFO Upskill Farmers on Beef Cattle Production and Enterprise Development

In partnership with the Department of Agriculture- Regional Field Office (DA-RFO), the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA conducted a Training on Beef Cattle Production and Enterprise Development at Cafe Hall B, ATI-RTC MIMAROPA, Barcenaga, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on July 31-August 2, 2024.

The three-day training aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge on proper management practices on beef cattle production, as part of achieving the agencies’ goal of strengthening the livestock sector in the country.

Participants from the Roxas Market Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ROMMCO) and the Naujan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (NAMCO) gained insights on various topics, including the current status of the beef cattle industry in the Philippines, beef cattle production technologies and practices, breeding systems, and the importance of record keeping delivered by Dr. Emmanuel D. Mago from Cavite State University and Ms. Alma Mae L. Manalo from ATI-MIMAROPA, who served as the resource persons during the training.

As the highlight of the training, the participants practiced producing  Urea Molasses Mineral Blocks (UMMB) as feed supplements, which are crucial for the growth of ruminants, and prepared silage for use during drought season.

As part of the support from the Livestock Economic Enterprise Development Program of DA-RFO, the participating cooperatives will receive a project valued at Php 2.5 million, which includes  23 heads of cattle, housing facilities, biologics, and a forage chopper.
