In preparation for the upcoming National Organic Agriculture (OA) Month, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA held the much-anticipated Search for Kabataang OA 2024 on October 22, 2024, at Mindoro State University (MinSU), Alcate, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro.
Unlike a typical quiz bee, this one-day activity was designed to educate, inspire, and empower youth with a comprehensive understanding of the significance of OA.
The quiz bee proper covered topics on Agricultural Concepts and Legal Aspects, RA 11511, Participatory Guarantee System, Philippine National Standards relevant to OA, Integrated Diversified Organic Farming Systems, Vermiculture and Vermicomposting Technology, and other OA-related topics, wherein the participants underwent different rounds to select the finalists.
During the final round, the remaining participants took a moving exam on the identification of inputs used in organic farming. This round determined the final winners of the quiz bee.
Awarding of the winners followed, with the top 5 students being recognized. Mr. Isaias A. Dado placed fifth, Ms. Trisha D. Yambao placed fourth, Ms. Joanne S. Helera placed third, and Ms. Jesscah A. Atienza placed second. Meanwhile, Ms. Ella Jane J. Javier won first place and will represent the MIMAROPA region at the National Search for Kabataang OA 2024 in November.
A total of 42 students from agriculture and agriculture-related courses participated in the activity.
