To bolster the skills of Learning Sites for Agriculture (LSA) cooperator in effective training delivery, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA spearheaded the Strengthening Agricultural Extension through Training Management and Sharing Technological Innovations at Vencio’s Garden Hotel and Restaurant, Tawiran, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro on September 25-27, 2024.
The three-day activity focused on discussions of presentations, communication, and facilitation skills to enhance the participants’ capabilities and equip them with relevant skills for managing and providing training to their fellow farmers. Mr. Nelson B. Gabutero, Sr. of Gabutero Organic Farm and Ms. Ramona M. Pastor of HN Organic Farm were among the presenters, highlighting their innovative technologies and best practices in Black Soldier Fly production, Palay-Isdaan, and Beekeeping. Meanwhile, Ms. Trisha M. Castillo discussed various programs of the Agricultural Credit and Policy Council (ACPC).
One of the highlights of the training was the Agriculture Exhibit which showcased the innovative farming and processing techniques, as well as raw harvests alongside processed goods to promote the value of integrated farming approaches and enable knowledge sharing among farmers and stakeholders.
The training also served as a venue for launching of the center’s LSA book, titled Agri-Venture: Exploring Learning Sites for Agriculture, which can be used as a guide for visitors in exploring the amenities, technologies, and best practices offered by LSAs in the region.
Another key moment during the activity was the LSA/TGP Achievers Awards Night which recognized the LSA cooperators, Extension Service Providers (ESPs), Magsasakang Siyentista (MS), and Farmers Information Technology Services (FITS) Centers for their outstanding contributions and excellent performance as extension service partners of ATI.
The participants expressed their appreciation for the success of the activity and realized its importance. Mr. Rafael Constantino Seño, LSA cooperator/ owner of Kaluppa Foundation Inc., shared that this activity reminded them that their efforts to be effective extension service partners were worthwhile, regardless of the awards that they received.
“Awards remind us how good we were. And I used the word “were” dahil tapos na po yung award. Awards always come at the end, but it will also always remind us where else we come, or where else we should go for, and where else we can inspire others. Isipin po natin ang award tapos na yan. Yung susunod na taon, pwedeng tayo ulit. Pero, we challenge everyone na baka kayo naman,” he added.
A total of 30 participants participated in the said event.
