Processing of Rice End Products 2024

Designed to equip the AEWs with knowledge on the sustainable utilization and value addition of rice by-products, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in  MIMAROPA initiated the conduct of Training on Processing of Rice End Products for Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) at ATI- MIMAROPA, Barcenaga, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, June 24-28, 2024.

During the training, discussions  were focused on the utilization of rice-by products such as straw, bran, and hull, which can be utilized  into other useful products. Moreover, the participants were  introduced to proper handling of the machines used for processing the end products.

Among the topics were  Feed Formulation discussed by Dr. Nora Cabaral-Lasaca of Mindoro State University (MinSU), who also shared insights  on alternative food for livestock during dry and wet seasons. Ms. Jeziel Casapao of the Provincial Demo Farm also shared about Rice Coffee while Dr. Amando Allan DM-Bondad of Department of Science and Technology - Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) discussed Charcoal Briquetting.

Each presentation by the resource persons was followed by an actual demonstration of the processes to ensure  that each participant was equipped with the knowledge and skills needed for  teaching other  farmers in their respective municipalities. As a hands-on application of what they have learned, the participants were asked to make and present a re-entry plan to prepare them with the technical know-how needed to successfully transfer what they have gained from the training to their local farmers.

“Marami po kaming napulot na makabagong kaalaman mula sa paggawa ng feeds, rice coffee, hanggang sa paggawa ng charcoal gamit ang rice hull. Ito po ay isang hamon sa ating mga AEWs na maiparating sa ating mga nasasakupan na mga farmers ang ganitong uri ng kaalaman,” said Mr. John Harold O. Alcaide, an AEW from Occidental Mindoro.

A total of 33 AEWs, along with  seven farmers participated in the said training.
