To enhance their capabilities in proper management practices for beef cattle production, 29 participants attended the three-day Training on Beef Cattle Production and Enterprise Development at the Romblon State University (RSU) Hostel, Odiongan, Romblon on October 8-10, 2024.
The training was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture- Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) to support the Livestock Economic Enterprise Development Program and strengthen the livestock sector in the country.
Mr. Mel D. Manalo, Planning Officer II of ATI-RTC MIMAROPA, discussed the current status of the Beef Cattle Industry in the Philippines, Beef Cattle Production Technologies and Practices, Breeding Systems and the Importance of Recordkeeping. Meanwhile, Ms. Diana Faye T. Duran, TSS III, delivered a lecture on Ethno-Veterinary Medicine Practices.
On the other hand, topics on Breeds of Beef Cattle, Disease Control, and Medication and Vaccination were presented by Dr. Emmanuel D. Mago, Assistant Professor IV of Cavite State University.
Aside from lectures, the participants also learned and practiced the production of feed supplements such as Urea Molasses Mineral Block (UMMB) and preparation of silage for the drought season when resources are scarce.
As part of the training, the association will receive a project valued at 2.5 million pesos, which includes 23 heads of cattle, housing facilities, biologics and a forage chopper from the DA-RFO.
