BARCENAGA, NAUJAN, ORIENTAL MINDORO - The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA recently hosted a Regional Youth Camp aimed at promoting youth engagement in agricultural development and providing a platform for showcasing talents and leadership skills. The event, held on March 19-21, 2024, gathered 50 coordinators, members, and other stakeholders from various chapters of the 4-H Club in the MIMAROPA region.
The event offered recreational activities and educational sessions. Participants engaged in 4-H rituals, including flag ceremonies and candle lighting, setting the tone for a meaningful gathering. Notably, the event featured insights from former trainees of international internship programs in Taiwan and Japan, namely, Mr. Lemuel Magnaye, FYFIPT Batch 1, and Mr. Kim Garbin, YFFLTPJ Batch 2023, who shared their experiences and encouraged youth participation in such initiatives.
A highlight of the camp was the presentation of entries in various contests, such as the 4-H Product Merchandise, 4-H Short Film, 4-H National Excellent Achievers Award (Hand and Heart Category), and the 4-H Agri Innovation Pitching. Standout proposals included “Vermitical City” by Mr. Gio Earl Laguerta and “Baka-Naman” by Mr. Krysland Jann Domingo and Mr. Mark Joseph Hidalgo. The winning entry, “Vermitical City” particularly impressed with its demonstration of innovative agricultural practices.
Moreover, the camp covered important topics on Gender and Development, with Engr. Cristina Intong, the 4-H Point Person, leading discussions on gender equality and inclusivity in development initiatives. Participants gained valuable insights into addressing gender bias and promoting equality in agricultural endeavors.
In a spirit of camaraderie and competition, participants were divided into groups and tasked with completing challenges covering the four pillars of 4-H: Head, Heart, Hand, and Health. Throughout the camp, teams demonstrated their teamwork and agility, tackling various tasks from problem-solving to physical challenges.
The event also witnessed the oath-taking of the newly elected President and Vice President of the 4-H Club Regional Federation, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter of leadership and collaboration within the organization.
The winners of the various contests are scheduled to represent the region in the upcoming 4-H National Youth Camp, which is scheduled for May 2024, promising further opportunities for growth and recognition on a national level.
