MAGSAYSAY, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO – The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA successfully conducted a three-day Training on Soybean Production on April 22-24, 2025 at Lola’s Healthy Farm, Brgy. Poblacion, Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro.

The province-wide training brought together 30 participants, including 10 Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) and 20 farmer leaders from various municipalities in Occidental Mindoro. It enhanced their knowledge and skills in soybean production, covering topics such as land preparation, cultivation practices, post-harvest handling, and value addition.

A key highlight of the training was the cost and return analysis workshop, where participants used sample scenarios and actual farm input data to estimate profitability based on the standard farm gate price. This activity enabled them to assess the economic viability of integrating soybeans into their existing farming systems.

Although the original plan included fieldwork in a soybean area, the unavailability of a suitable site led to an engaging hands-on food processing session instead. During this activity, participants learned to prepare nutritious and marketable products such as soya milk, soya lumpiang shanghai, soya maruya, and soya balls using soy pulp.

Mr. Felix T. Marquez, Science Research Specialist I of the Department of Agriculture–MIMAROPA Research Division, and Mr. Joel Ryan R. Pagdato, Development Management Officer I of ATI–MIMAROPA, served as resource persons.
