In a bid to equip locals with essential skills for sustainable agricultural practices, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA initiated the first batch of the “Seminar on Urban Agriculture” on February 20, 2024 in Brgy. Balansay, Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.

Led by Ms. Roseanne D. Nilo, the ATI MIMAROPA National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) Point Person, the one-day activity aimed to provide the youth, women, and other agri-enthusiasts with basic knowledge of urban gardening.

In her lecture, Ms. Nilo discussed various aspects of UA, including suitable vegetable varieties for urban settings and diverse cultural management practices.

Moreover, Ms. Nilo educated the participants on basic hydroponics, covering the types of hydroponic systems and their benefits. She provided practical insights into setting up Kratky hydroponics through hands-on activities.

A total of 30 participants were provided with starter kits for Kratky hydroponics and essential farming tools that they can use in their UA endeavors within their communities.
