IEC Development 2024

“The development of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials is beneficial in the field of extension. Among the skills I acquired in photo editing, making brochures, posters, and videos, I have only just been able to apply them.”

This was shared by Ms. Elizabeth M. Hizole, Agricultural Technician from the Municipal Agriculture Office in Boac, Marinduque, during the closing program of the Training on IEC Development on March 13, 2024, at Hotel Marinduque, Brgy. Isok, Boac, Marinduque. As one of the graduates of the training, she admitted that it was her first time attending such training, and all the things she learned were new to her, especially developing IEC materials using editing applications.

Although it was unfamiliar to her, she managed to endure the three-day training that started on March 11, 2024, during which she and her fellow Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) learned fundamental concepts in creating IEC materials using Microsoft applications and video editing software. She also learned the necessary steps and various tips for crafting effective brochures, posters, and videos.

According to her, the Resource Speaker covered all the topics they needed to learn. Mr. John Edgar S. Anthony, Dean of the College of Computer Studies from Mindoro State University, discussed the topics on science writing, creating effective brochures, fundamental photography skills, crafting impactful posters, the basics of video production, and utilizing artificial intelligence tools in developing IEC materials.

Ms. Hizole expressed that in partnership with the Farmers Information and Technology Centers in their respective municipalities, she would use all the knowledge she has acquired to develop high-quality IEC materials that would assist farmers in their agricultural practices.

A total of 22 AEWs successfully graduated from the training conducted by the Agricultural Training Institute in MIMAROPA through its Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Unit.
