In celebration of its 20th Anniversary, the Archipelago Philippine Ferries Corporation through FastCat under the leadership of Chairman Ms. Mary Ann I. Pastrana in partnership with the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) in MIMAROPA led by Center Director Pat Andrew B. Barrientos spearheaded a media immersion on April 12, 2023 at Victoria Nature Park (VNP), Brgy. Bambanin, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro.

The activity aims to inform the media about the impact of FastCat on Mindoro's Agriculture. Also, it intends to promote the community-based swine multiplier project under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) Program of the Department of Agriculture that was awarded to Victoria Nature Park Farmers and Employees Agriculture Cooperative (VNPAC).

Pastrana

In her message, Ms. Pastrana said that she sees how FastCat will impact the lives of seafarers by educating them on how to invest in agriculture. Also, she emphasized that through the help of ATI, seafarers including their families will be trained to become agripreneurs.

“With its Anytime Maritime campaign, FastCat will help sell and promote agriculture products from Mindoro. Ang laman ng hapag ng bawat Pilipino ay dapat gawang Pilipino”, she added.

Moreover, Dir. Barrientos served as one of the speakers of the activity wherein he presented the ATI programs and projects that can help seafarers and youth who want to engage in agriculture.

In his discussion, he encouraged the media to support the community-based swine multiplier project located at Brgy. Leido, Victoria, which aims to support the local swine industry in the province. In addition, he informed them about the benefit of barley green fodder as an alternative feed for pigs.

“FastCat can help transport our farmers’ products to the right markets, especially in other provinces. Seafarers and their wives will be taught not only livelihood training skills but also how to manage their finances through Training on Financial Literacy”, he stressed.

The activity ended on a farm tour where ATI toured media personnel in a community-based swine project in Brgy. Leido.

The said activity was participated by the different local and national media such as Daily Tribune, DWXR 101. 7 FM, The Manila Times, Manila Broadcasting Company, Radyo Natin Calapan, Radyo Natin Bongabong, Radyo Natin Victoria, Kalahi FM Calapan and Paparazzi News, among others.
