The Agricultural Training Institute-MIMAROPA conducted "AgriKids: Organic Adventure (OA) among the 31 pupils of Minas Elementary School which aimed at educating the young minds about the significance of agriculture in our lives. The focus was on promoting organic farming practices and addressing the school's specific concern regarding waste management.
As such, pupils were taught of the composting techniques, the creation of ecobricks, and innovative ways to repurpose recyclable materials.
The highlights of the activity were hands on sessions where each pupil actively participated. They were guided in preparing organic concoctions such as Fermented Plant Juice and Fermented Fruit Juice where the materials were directly collected in the vicinity of the school.
In addition, in an effort to instill a sense of responsibility and connection to nature, each pupil was given the opportunity to plant their own vegetable seeds and seedlings using empty bottles as their pots.
According to the pupils, they enjoyed the activities and learned a lot in the process. They also said that the wastes are not just wastes but can still turn into something useful.
After the activity, ATI MIMAROPA also gave assorted vegetable seeds to the school as input for their Gulayan sa Paaralan Project. The management of the school extended their gratitude for the conduct of the activity and technical assistance they have received.
AgriKids: OA was held on November 9, 2023 as part of the activities in line with the National OA Month.
