ATI MIMAROPA Deploys 10 Youth Interns to OA Farm Partners

The intervention to youth encouraging them to engage in organic agriculture and become a successful agripreneur thru scholarship program has been formally inked between the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center MIMAROPA as the lead implementer and the 10 youth interns as the recipients of the Youth Scholarship Grant on Organic Farming.

The youth interns, namely, Mary Joy Anyayahan, Claire S. Balderas, Angel G. Bolaños, Cyrus Fabic, Gerome Baluntong (Oriental Mindoro), Jessie An E. Escultor, Frances Supetran, Mariano Supetran (Occidental Mindoro), Jhomar Pacaldo and Eva Cris Mabuhay (Palawan) were the successful applicants who passed from the evaluation procedure set by the Regional and National Screening and Selection Committees.

Prior to this, ATI MIMAROPA conducted an online pre-orientation activity on March 15, 2023 to present all the provisions stated in the Memorandum Agreement as well as address all their issues and concerns. In addition, to further understand the program, ATI MIMAROPA reiterated and emphasized the rationale and objectives of the program, especially the duties and responsibilities of all parties during the face-to-face Orientation and MOA signing activity.

In his message, Center Director Pat Andrew B. Barrientos who graced the MOA signing and endorsement in Occidental Mindoro encouraged the youth to finish the program because according to him that something greater is yet to come for them. He also assured them that ATI MIMAROPA will support and guide them to become successful agripreneurs with the help of their farm partners.

Meanwhile, apart from the youth, the five farm partners – Mary Help of Christian School (Mindoro), Inc., Gabutero Organic Farm, Rada Eco Farm, Inc., in Oriental Mindoro Lola’s Healthy Farm, Inc. in Occidental Mindoro and Aloha House, Inc. in Palawan have also signed their MOAs as the host farms of the 10 youth in the region.

After the MOA signing, the 10 youths were given polo shirt, sweatshirt, waway hat and boots to be used in the farm activities. Afterwards, they were endorsed and deployed to their respective farm partners that suit best with their prepared agricultural enterprises.

The 21-month internship program for the youth aims to fully imbibe the “life of a farmer” and the organic practices. It comprises of 1) nine-month schooling and on-site training to the farm partners, and 2) one-year hands-on practice and implementation of proposed organic enterprise. Aside from a monthly stipend of PhP5,000.00 for nine months and PhP10,000.00 for the following year, they will also receive financial assistance amounting to PhP150,000.00 based on their approved Business Model Canvas once they completed the internship program.

The Orientation, MOA Signing and Deployment of interns were held simultaneously at ATI MIMAROPA, Barcenaga, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, and Lola’s Healthy Farm, Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro and Aloha House, Inc., Mitra Road, Puerto Princesa City on March 27, 2023.
