OMSC Dominates the ATI MIMAROPA's Kabataang OA 2023

The Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) – Regional Training Center held the "Search for Kabataang OA (Quiz Bee) 2023 on October 10, 2023 at ATI, Barcenaga, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

The activity generally aims to create awareness on organic agriculture as well as boost enrollment in agriculture and agriculture-related courses through the conduct of an agricultural quiz bee focused on OA production technologies and practices. 

In his opening message, Mr. Norberto C. Maur, Assistant Center Director said that the Search Kabataang for OA 2023 is a quiz bee designed to be more than just a competition; it is a healthy competition to further inspire, educate, and empower the youth about agriculture, particularly focusing on organic practices.

Twenty-three students from Mindoro State University, Romblon State University, and Occidental Mindoro State College participated in the said quiz.

The quiz bee was divided into four parts – the elimination round, easy, average, and difficult round. Ms. Jezell dT. dela Cruz, Organic Agriculture Point Person explained that only 20 participants will proceed to the Easy Round, while it will be cut to 15 participants to Average Round until 10 participants will compete in Difficult Round.

 Topics of the said quiz revolved mainly around Agriculture concepts and legal aspects (RA 10068), RA 11511, Participatory Guarantee System, Philippine National Standards relevant to OA, Fertilizers, concoctions and extracts, Organic Agriculture Technologies and current events related to OA.

After a series of rounds, participants from the OMSC bagged five places in the quiz bee– from 4th Place to Champion, hailing them as the winning school of the ATI MIMAROPA’s Search for Kabataang Organic Agriculture Quiz Bee 2023.

Winners of the quiz bee were M-jay B. Ulpindo (Champion), Wengel Enrick C. Inocencio (1st Place), Aliah Alleyne L. Canals (2nd Place), Marielle Ann R. Magbanua (3rd Place) and Riza M. Soriano (4th Place).

The winners received cash prizes amounting to PhP 10,000.00, PhP 7,000.00, PhP 5,000.00, PhP 3,000.00, and PhP 2,000.00, respectively plus medals and certificates, while the OMSC was also awarded PhP 7,000.00 cash and trophy.

Mr. Ulpindo will represent the MIMAROPA region in the national competition in November as part of the celebration of Organic Agriculture Month.
