MAMBURAO, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO – A total of 30 farmer leaders from various clusters in the province successfully completed the ten-day Training of Trainers (TOT) on Corn Production and Post-Harvest Management on February 12-23, 2024.

“We need to gain more in order to give to others,” shared Mr. Jemcy Gallardo, a farmer leader from Agustin Farm School, reflecting the objective of the training to enhance the knowledge and competence of the participants in corn production.

The training covered a wide range of topics, from corn cultivation to agripreneurship and business planning, all of which were discussed by resource persons from the Regional Soil Lab (RSL), Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC), and the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) MIMAROPA.

Aside from discussions, the participants also engaged in a field activity at Nifas Farm in Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Tangkalan, where they carefully observed maize in the corn fields, applying the principles of agro-ecosystem analysis (AESA) learned during lectures.

Moreover, they were also given an opportunity to serve as resource persons on their chosen topics during the microteaching session. This will serve as their preparation for the Farmers Field School on corn production technology in their respective localities.

Present during the TOT graduation ceremony was Engr. Alrizza Zubiri, Provincial Agriculturist of Occidental Mindoro.

“The completion of this training signifies a significant step towards empowering farmer leaders in Occidental Mindoro, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to improve corn production and post-harvest management in the province,” Engr. Zubiri said.
