A total of 38 extension workers in Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro successfully graduated from the “Training on Data Management for Agricultural Extension Workers” on July 13-15, 2022 and July 26-28, 2022, respectively.
The training is designed to enhance the animal industry management capability of the livestock agencies and livestock focal persons in providing a systematize and automated data.
Mr. Bryn A. Bauzon, Development Management Officer II from the DA-National Livestock Program served as Resource Speaker during the three-day training. Mr. Bauzon discussed the topics on Phil-AIMIS Framework, Data Privacy, Data Analytics, Data Cleaning, Deduplication, Data Transformation, and Data Analysis using Microsoft Excel.
Part of the training was hands-on activities on the use of the Pentaho application for data cleaning and data transformation. Also, the participants learned about the key concept and principles of the data privacy act to protect personal information and communication systems in both the private and government sectors.
On her impression, Ms. Cyril Jem H. Gumba, Agriculturist I of the DA-MIMAROPA Region said that the training will personally help her in consolidating data from the Municipal Agriculture Offices. “Lalo na dun sa topic na data cleaning, sa pamamagitan nito nalaman namin kung paano yung paglilinis ng mga data para mas maayos naming maibigay ito sa Central Office,” she added.
Moreover, Ms. Eleonor G. Laya, Agricultural Center Chief I of the Provincial Veterinary Office shared “Lagi nating tatandaan na lahat tayo ay may responsibilidad na kailangan nating pahalagahan. Lagi nating isabuhay ang mga bagay na natutunan natin sa pagsasanay na ito, dahil sabi nga hindi naman sa training natatapos ang lahat bagkus ay patuloy nating paunlarin yung mga bagay na natutunan natin.”
Present during the graduation ceremony of the first batch training was OIC-Assistant Center Director Norberto C. Maur. He encouraged the graduates to apply the learnings they have learned in the training. “Itong pagsasanay na ito ay nakapa useful sa ating opisina lalo na may mga data tayong kailangan protektahan. Walang silbi ang ating natutunan kung hindi natin ito gagamitin at hindi natin ito ibabahagi sa iba”, Mr. Maur said.
According to the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Phil-AIMIS shall be the central repository data bank and knowledge portal for the DA Livestock Agencies. It shall integrate databases on animal inventory, animal health animal food safety, and animal trade and markets.
The said two batches of training were facilitated by the Livestock Program of ATI-MIMAROPA led by Livestock Point Person Ms. Alma Mae L. Manalo.
